Final

The final exam will be given on Friday, May 4th, from 11am to 1pm in KAP 267.

The main topics covered will be:
  • Wikis
  • Web 2.0
  • Telnet & FTP
  • Java
  • Video Gaming
  • Internet Searching
  • Internet Security
  • Entertainment (MP3, iPods, etc.)

The final exam may also include topics covered by the midterm including the OSI Model, databases and XML.

You should review all of the lectures presentations, which can be found on Blackboard, and Parts 5, 6, 7 and 9 in the book (How The Internet Works, Eighth Edition by Preston Gralla).

Assignment #3

1. Log into http://www.blogger.com.

2. Create links to all of your classmates’ blogs in your sidebar.

a. From the Dashboard, click on the Layout link for your blog. This should take you to the “Template” tab and “Page Elements” section.

b. In the sidebar section, click on the “Add a Page Element” link.

c. In the “Choose a New Page Element” window, click the “Add to Blog” button for the “Link List.”

d. In the “Configure Link List” window, enter “Classmates’ Blogs” for the Title.

e. Change the Sorting to “Sort Alphabetically.”

f. For each classmate, enter the URL and name. Then click the “Add Link” button. You can get the names and URLs from http://itp260.blogspot.com or Blackboard.

g. When done with all students, click the “Save Changes” button.

3. Update your blog every week. Your entries need to be about topics relating to this class. Make sure to add your opinion on the subject.

4. Include an entry for each of the following articles:

a. Technology Writings: Why the Web Is Like a Rain Forest by Steven Johnson

b. Technology Writings: Throwing Google at the Book by Farhad Manjoo
